Assyrian Democratic Organization’s Statement on the Release of the Assyrian Detainees in Syria
Today, May 26, 2011, the Political Security branch of Syria, released the leaders and members of the Assyrian Democratic Organization, who were detained on Friday, May 20, 2011, following a raid by the Security Forces on the Assyrian Democratic Organization’s headquarters in Qamishly. During the raid, the Security Forces had arrested everyone who was inside and confiscated everything inside the headquarters. This action was due to the participation of some of the Assyrian youth in the “Freedom Friday” protest in Qamishly.
We, in the Assyrian Democratic Organization, consider the release of our members a step in the right direction, and we also call on the authorities to release all political prisoners and ending political detention in Syria. We also demand the return of all the confiscated material and the re-opening of the Assyrian Democratic Organization headquarters.
On this occasion, we would like to express our thanks and gratitude to all of our political parties, the national Kurdish movement’s political parties, human rights organizations, national and religious figures, the media, and all of our Chaldean Syriac Assyrian people in the homeland and Diaspora, who have shown great interest in the case of our detained members and expressed their sincere solidarity, support, and full sympathy with the Assyrian Democratic Organization.
We promise everyone that the Assyrian Democratic Organization will continue to meet your expectations, and will continue its struggle based on its principles and national position, and we will work with everyone to build a free and democratic nation, that provides a prosperous future for all its people of the various national and political affiliations.
